Diary of a Young Black Satyr

Diary of a Young Black Satyr

North Hollywood: Barclay House, 1969. 1st Edition. 12mo, publisher’s stiff illustrated paper wraps.

Scarce late 1960s pulp paperback depicting the "ungovernable passions" of Eddie, a Black man suffering from "Satyriasis," the rare inheritance of an extra Y chromosome. Published by leading West Coast sleaze imprint Brandon House, a subsidiary of major porn publisher American Art Enterprises, Inc. under their ostensibly "nonfiction" line Barclay House, the book channels stereotypes and anxieties about the Black Power movement into a nominal "psycho-sex study." Issuing such faux sociological and psychological was a transparent effort on the part of smut peddlers of the day, as they worked to align with then-recent legal rulings that classified pornographic works as lacking redeeming social importance. Light rubbing and edgewear. Very good. Item #8535
