Self Portrait

Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1963. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher's black cloth, spine stamped in metallic rose and gilt, top edge stained red, original gold metallic dust jacket printed in black.

First edition of artist Man Ray’s autobiography. Self Portrait is "rich in anecdote and vignettes of the immortals of expatriate Paris," offering a quasi-accurate view of Man Ray's life and contemporaries – among them Picasso, Duchamp, Brancusi, Dali, Hemingway, Joyce and a few of his mistresses. Dedicated to his wife and muse Juliet, whom he married in a double wedding with their friends Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning in 1946. Illustrated with 36 black-and-white photos and reproductions. Price-clipped dust jacket with some chipping and edgewear, with small cellotape repairs to rear panel. Very good. Item #8279
