The Men Between

North Hollywood, CA: Private Editions, 1966. 1st Edition. 12mo, publisher’s stiff illustrated paper wraps, edges stained red.

Pre-Stonewall gay pulp paperback published by short-lived imprint Private Editions. A product of the "gay pulp boom," the book is an example of the great gains in literary freedom of expression made by American publishers after a series of federal court decisions made between the mid-1950s to 70s. Like many gay works of the times, the prose elides explicit content with innuendo and double-entendre. A subsidiary of sci-fi writers Charles Fritch and Jack Matcha’s Frimac Publications, Private Editions was the companion to their more widely recognized sleaze imprint Carousel Books. Age-toning to textblock; some creasing and edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #8220
