Full Metal Jacket Diary

New York: Rugged Land, 2005. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's hinged metal binding embossed in black, red, and blind, blind-embossed to spine and lower cover, photo-illustrated endpapers.

First edition of actor Matthew Modine’s memoir of working on Kubrick’s 1987 (anti) war drama, signed by him on the title page and with a piece sign. The infamously meticulous director’s penultimate film, Full Metal Jacket follows a group of American soldiers serving in the Vietnam War through the eyes of Private Davis (Modine). Prior to filming, Kubrick suggested to Modine he keep a diary of his experiences, additionally giving him the privilege of photographing the set and process with a Rolleiflex camera. This reproduction of his journal details Kubrick's philosophies, eccentricities, and techniques, along with numerous set and candid photos. In 2006 the book won the AIGA "50 Books/50 Covers" award. Amply illustrated in color and black-and-white. Laser etched as number r16,020 of 20,000 copies. Small dent to bottom edges of boards, else fine. Item #8108
