Mira Mira Mira. Puerto Rican New Yorkers

New York: Forum Press, [1973]. 1st Edition. Small quarto, publisher's stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.

Catalog published in conjunction with an exhibition of photography by Puerto Rican New Yorkers at the Museum of the City of New York in 1973. A document of the Nuyorican Movement, this landmark photobook comprises portraits and candids by René Gelpi, Geño Rodriguez, and Angel Franco, Jr. Emerging in the 1960s and 70s in East Harlem, Williamsburg, and the South Bronx, the intellectual movement was composed of poets, writers, artists, and musicians addressing diasporic experience and identity. Notably, the exhibition was organized the same year that the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, the informal literary salon of the movement, opened on the Lower East Side. Illustrated with black-and-white plates; with text by curator Ramon Figueroa Chapel and contemporary MCNY director Joseph Veach Noble along with brief artist bios. Text in English and Spanish. Moderate soiling and creasing. Very good. Scarce. Item #8057
