Sam Shepard

New York: Little Bear Press, 1990. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's red cloth, black-and-white photo mounted to upper board, lower board stamped in black, photo-illustrated endpapers.

"Sam arrived with a clean shave and you could just tell by the way she sipped that beer and watched him how much she loved him…'You should've taken that picture,' someone said. 'No, they’ll kiss again,' I answered." Signed first edition of Bruce Weber’s black-and-white photobook of Sam Shepard and his then-girlfriend Jessica Lange, accompanied by a text narrative of Weber’s experience photographing John Malkovich and Paul Bowles in Tangier. Weber was an American fashion photographer and filmmaker who came to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s with his ad campaigns for Calvin Klein. In the text Weber talks with Bowles about his experience photographing Shepard, the American actor and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright who starred in films including Days of Heaven (1978) and Baby Boom (1987), and is known for plays deconstructing the mythos of the American West, including "Buried Child" (1978) and "True West" (1980), in which John Malkovich made his name. Shepard’s long relationship with Lange (known for films including Frances and Tootsie) put his personal life under an unwanted spotlight. The present work was published by Weber's Little Bear Press to raise funds for famed NYC repertory cinema Film Forum. Signed by Weber on the title page. No dust jacket, as issued. Fine. Item #8039
