Los Angeles: Paramount Pictures, 1971. One-sheet photo-illustrated poster (measures 27" x 41").
One-sheet poster for the US release of Bertolucci’s 1970 political thriller. Based on Alberto Moravia's 1947 anti-fascist novel of the same name, the film centers on a repressed bureaucrat in Mussolini’s Italy (Jean-Louis Trintignant) who is assigned to murder his former professor. A classic of Italian cinema and considered Bertolucci’s final true masterpiece, almost all aspects of the film were praised, including Ferdinando Scarfiotti’s Art Deco sets which drew upon Caravaggio and the colorfully rich cinematography by Vittorio Storaro. Notably, the film was a major inspiration for Francis Ford Coppola while making The Godfather (1972) and influenced on the aesthetics and filmmaking techniques of the "New Cinema" movement. Style A, #71/174. Pinholes to corners, minor tape residue to verso, horizontal fold folds, minor edgewear. Very good. Item #7727
