Wild Raspberries

Boston: Bulfinch/Little, Brown and Company, 1997. 1st Edition Thus. Slim folio, publisher's fuschia paper-covered boards, spine stamped in black, canary endapers, original illustrated wraparound band.

Facsimile reprint of a pre-Pop artist book by Warhol and interior decorator Suzie Frankfurt. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Warhol worked as a freelance children’s book illustrator for Doubleday and produced a handful of hand-made artist's books, including this recipe collection. Titled after Ingmar Bergman’s Wild Strawberries (1957), which had recently been released, and parodying the type of French culinary books ubiquitous in the 1950s, Warhol and Frankfurt's limited edition cookbook–only 34 copies were produced–comprises absurdist recipes such as Piglet a la Trader Vic, Omelet Greta Garbo, Gefilte of Fighting Fish, Oysters a la Harriman, and more, written by Frankfurt and transcribed by Warhol’s mother, alongside Warhol’s drawings, which were hand colored by Warhol’s schoolboy neighbors. Vividly illustrated with color plates; with prefaces by Suzie and Jaime Frankfurt. Originally published in 1959. Fine. Item #7701
