New York: Details Publishing Corp. 1989. Quarto, publisher's stapled photo-illustrated wraps.
August 1989 issue of editor Annie Flanders's famed monthly New York fashion and nightlife magazine, with Cher on the cover. Flanders's 1980s downtown bible was bought by Condé Nast in 1988, with Flanders retained as editor for a few more years, before a complete makeover as a mainstream men's magazine. This issue captures the tension of that transitional period, as advertising pages for major brands swell and share space with niche labels and locales, and scenes from louche nights out abound. Features in this issue include Cher's fashion evolution, a convo with Spike Lee on the release of Do the Right Thing, the women of rap and R&B, Cookie Mueller at the art galleries (one of her last appearances in the magazine before her death later that year), fall menswear, a survey of Steven Spielberg's films, and more. Light soiling and edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #7497
