High Plains Drifter

High Plains Drifter

New York: Bantam Books, 1973. 1st Edition. 12mo, publisher's stiff illustrated paper wraps, all edges stained yellow.

Mass market paperback original novelization of Clint Eastwood’s sophomore film as a director. Starring Eastwood, High Plain Drifters centers on a nameless, gun-toting stranger on horseback who is hired by the inhabitants of a small mining town he comes upon to mete out justice to outlaws. A surreal revisionist Western, the film was both a critical and commercial success and is considered by some to be an overlooked masterpiece. Written by Ernest Tidyman, who wrote the original screenplay for the film after winning the Best Screenplay Oscar for The French Connection (1971). Western Writers of American Book Club subscription card tipped in at center. Fine. Item #7401
