New York: Council of Fashion Designers of America, 1988. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's stiff illustrated wraps, upper wrap decoratively embossed.

Original program for the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards in 1988. A nonprofit trade association organized by designers for designers with the goal of promoting fashion as a serious art form and integral aspect of culture, CFDA was established in 1962 by top fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert (who also founded the Met Gala and New York Fashion Week). Considered "the Oscars of fashion," the annual awards show began in 1980 in order to recognize the industry’s most innovative creatives including designers, photographers, and celebrities. In 1988, Isaac Mizrahi won the Perry Ellis award for emerging talent; with Karl Lagerfeld selected for a special award for International Fashion Influence for his work at Chanel, Bill Robinson for Best Menswear; Grace Mirabella for Fashion Journalism; Geoffrey Beene for Fashion as Art; and Richard Avedon and Nancy Reagan selected for Lifetime Achievement awards. The catalog includes an introduction by contemporary CFDA president Oscar de la Renta and full-page portraits and editorials. Illustrated in black-and-white. Minor edgewear, else fine. Item #7296
