Item #6908 The Face. Annie Lennox, Nick Logan, cover.

The Face. No. 42

London: The Face, 1983. Quarto, publisher's stapled photo-illustrated wraps.

October 1983 issue of massively influential British music, fashion and culture magazine The Face, created by Nick Logan, founder of touchstone music mags New Musical Express and Smash Hits. Starting in 1980, the magazine became a showcase for the burgeoning glam-infused New Romantic club scene in London. It provided a regular home for youth culture, music scene and fashion photographers such as Derek Ridgers, Steven Meisel, Virginia Turbett, Jaime Morgan, and others, and was an incubator for the Buffalo collective of young stylists, designers, photographers and models – overseen by resident Face stylist Ray Petri – that revolutionized street fashion and new wave style. With its iconic cover stars (Madonna, Prince, George Michael, David Bowie) and an interior layout style inflected by 20th-century design movements such Bauhaus and Constructivism, the magazine both captured and shaped the zeitgeist. This issue with Annie Lennox on the cover, and features and profiles on Brian Eno, Mad Max, Elio Fiorucci, Helen Gurley Brown, and more. Most minor creasing, else fine. Item #6908
