The Masquerade Erotic Newsletter. July/August. Vol. 3, No. 4
New York: Masquerade Books, Inc., 1994. Quarto, publisher's stapled photo-illustrated wraps.
July/August 1994 issue of erotic publisher Richard Kasak’s sex positive magazine. A former co-owner of Times Square paperback shop Bookmasters and a one-time Grove Press editor, Kasak later helmed the now-defunct Masquerade Books, once the world’s largest publishers of erotica, along with gay and lesbian imprints Bad Boy and Rosebud. Beginning in the early 1990s, the bimonthly magazine featured erotic fiction, book and video reviews, fetish photography, exposés, interviews with sex workers and industry insiders, and more. This issue features an interview with queer Black sci-fi writer and activist Samuel R. Delany, who also wrote for Richard Kasak’s trade book imprint, Richard Kasak Books, along with an excerpt from Delany's new novel The Mad Man, a cover and photo series by downtown fetish photographer and filmmaker Richard Kern, a photo series by German fine art photographer Günter Blum, an essay on peepshows by Alice Joanou, and more. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white photos, drawings, reproductions, ads and classifieds. Minor edgewear to wraps, else fine. Item #6588
