The Other Rooms
Milan/New York: Charta/Wunternaum, 2009. 1st Edition. Small quarto, publisher’s white cloth, spine and boards blind stamped, original printed obi band.
First edition of Ono’s sequel to Grapefruit (1964) published in conjunction with her exhibition “Anton’s Memory” held at the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in 2009. This collection of minimalist compositions matches her original cult classic in its compact size, arrangement, and theme. Intending to invite the reader to experience “the life of a woman seeing through the eyes of her son,” the conceptual series describes rooms (the Blue Room, Rooms and Footsteps, Rooms of Various Lightness) alongside reflections and observations on motherhood and instructional pieces (“Politicians should wear pink transparent loose robes or pajama-like outfits without the bottoms at all times.”) Fine. Uncommon. Item #6581
