Morocco

New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Publishers, 1993. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's tapioca cloth, spine stamped in purple, original photo-illustrated dust jacket.

"At least you can say you were in on the last days of Morocco" (from The Sheltering Sky). First edition of American expatriate writer, translator and composer Paul Bowles and San Francisco-based photographer Barry Brukoff’s collaborative photobook. Bowles was long associated with the city of Tangier, where he settled in the 1940s and lived for the rest of his life. Brukoff, like many before him, made the pilgrimage to meet Bowles, and won his blessing for the present volume. Bowles's texts describe the landmarks and landscapes – of Tangier, the Sahara, and Marrakech – depicted in Brukoff's images, with Bowles also chronicling his extensive relationship to the country, its music, art, culture, and more. Lavishly illustrated with 80 color plates. Faint dampstaining to bottom edge of boards and textblock; light rubbing and edgewear to unclipped dust jacket. Very good. Item #6356
