London: Vision On Publishing Ltd., 2001. 1st Edition. Large folio, publisher's photo-illustrated stiff paper wraps, french flaps.
Photo history of the Glam era, by music and fashion photographer Rock, who shot iconic album covers for Bowie, Lou Reed, Syd Barrett, Queen, Joan Jett and others, and was principal photographer for The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Illustrated throughout with color and black-and-white photos, many full- and double-page. Accompanying the photos are quotes from many of the subjects, including Barrett, Reed, Rock, Iggy Pop, Bryan Ferry, Debbie Harry, Freddie Mercury and others, comprising something of an oral history. Foreword by Bowie: "mascara was merely the conveyance by which great globs of non-rock flotsam and jetsam were to be delivered. Japanese kabuki, Dada, Dietrich and Leni Riefenstahl, Piaf and Futurism, and above all, 'elegant gloom'....Not for us the couple of pints in the backroom bar after the gig." Published in conjunction with an exhibit of Rock's work at London's Proud Galleries (April 5 - May 6, 2001). Creasing to top edge of upper wrap from having been paper-clipped, bottom corner of lower wrap banged with small closed tear to bottom edge. Very good. Item #63
