The Winter Calligraphy of Ustad Selim & Other Poems

Ipswich, UK: Golgonooza Press, 1975. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher’s saddle-stitched wraps, original illustrated dust jacket with flaps pasted down.

First edition of this early poetry collection by notorious anarchist author Peter Lamborn Wilson, signed by him on the limitation. The slim volume comprises sixteen Sufi-influenced poems in three sections (The Winter Calligraphy of Ustad Selim, Black Light, and The Lutenist), written while Lamborn was studying in the Middle East. Best known by his pseudonym Hakim Bey (which he adopted shortly after the publication of this collection), Wilson is primarily recognized for his concept of the Temporary Autonomous Zone (TAZ), the socio-political tactic and liberatory practice of evading formal structures of control through a deliberately short-lived space. Numbered 25 of 50 signed copies, from a total edition of 350. Illustrated in gold with Islamic iconography. Small sticker residue to front flap, else fine. Item #6217
