Guide to an exhibition held at the New School for Social Research in 1983, showcasing work by New York photographer Hertha Bauer. Fascinated by their color, calligraphy, shape, and iconography, Bauer began photographing manhole covers in 1978, going on to capture more than 800 cast-iron covers created by unknown artists in the US, Canada, and Europe. This was her second exhibition of "manhole art," and featured photographs and etchings of 70 manholes. (The present guide provides detailed notes on the photos and etchings, with prices, but contains no reproductions save the cover illustration, reproducing one etching.) Horizontal crease from folding, light creasing from handling. Very good. Item #6216
