The World. The Literary Magazine of the Poetry Project. Number 46
New York: The Poetry Project Ltd., 1993. Octavo, illustrated paper wraps.
The history of The World is inseparable from that of the Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery. The magazine’s first appearance followed close on the heels of the Poetry Project’s first official reading in September of 1966. Second generation poets increasingly gravitated toward non-academic centers of learning and performance based in local communities, the Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church chief among them, where they organized and engaged in performances, workshops, lectures, protests, and more. Contributors to this issue include: Alice Notley, John Ashbery, Diane di Prima, Ed Roberson, David Trinidad and Lita Hornick. Fine. Item #6146
