Item #6039 Per Lui. Franca Sozzani, Martin Brading, Juke Inghram, cover photo, cover model.

Per Lui. N. 64. Ottobre 1988

Milan: Edizioni Condé Nast, 1988. Quarto, publisher's photo-illustrated wraps.

October 1988 issue of longtime Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani’s men’s magazine, featuring a cover photo of model Juke Inghram by Martin Brading. After a stint at Vogue Bambini, Sozzani landed an editorship at Lei, an Italian edition of US Glamour in 1980. Two years later, she was hired to head Per Lui, the title’s male counterpart. Issued by Condé Nast from 1982 to 1991, the publication played a transformative role in the burgeoning international menswear industry and fashion mag revolution while promoting dynamic visions of male identity. Focusing on large format images and complex visual narratives, Sozzani famously nurtured the careers of then-fledgling fashion photographers such as Mario Testino, Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Bruce Weber, Paolo Roversi, and Oliviero Toscani (her key photographer), whom she famously gave complete creative freedom, unusual in Italy at the time. Her role at Lei and Per Lui would ultimately shape her illustrious career, propelling her to editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia in 1988, a post she held until her death in 2016. Profusely illustrated in color and black-and-white. Text in Italian. Some soiling and minor creasing to wraps. Very good. Item #6039
