South Yarra, Victoria, Australia: Currey O'Neil, 1985. 1st Edition. Small oblong quarto, publisher’s stiff photo-illustrated paper wraps.
First edition of Australian photographer and social documentarian Rennie Ellis’s photobook containing snapshots of Melbourne parties in the 1980s. Once dubbed "Australia's oldest hippy” and self-described as an enfant terrible of Australian arts, Ellis began his career as a travel photographer in the 1960s before turning his lens to entertainers, artists, and socialites. It was during the early 80s that Ellis developed his now-signature style and subject, capturing playful images of parties, rock concerts, nightclubs, beach life, and more. Life’s a Ball is the third book in Ellis’s cult classic "Life’s a…" series, published shortly after Life’s a Beach and Life’s a Beer. Vividly illustrated with color and black-and-white plates. Some creasing and soiling to wraps. Very good. Item #6032
