Whitney 1995 Biennial. Girl with Pill

New York: Whitney Museum of American Art, 1995. Measures 20.5" chest, 30" length, white cotton short sleeve, tag reads Fruit of the Loom, M.

T-shirt for the 1995 Whitney Biennial. Curated by gallerist and critic Klaus Kertess, the '95 edition of the group show included work by Agnes Martin, Matthew Barney, Jane Freilicher, David Armstrong, Cindy Sherman, Philip Taaffe, Judi Linn, Toba Khedoori, and Peter Saul (who designed the show's boy/girl pill shirts), and others. "Contemporary art is in subtle transition, from the didacticism and dry theorizing that prevailed for several years toward a lighter, more individual, more sensuous approach, whether the work involved is abstract painting or political art. Mr. Kertess's biennial reflects that change" (New York Times). Unworn. Item #5926
