New York: Frederick A. Praeger, 1966. Revised Edition. Quarto, publisher's oatmeal buckram, spine stamped in black, original photo-illustrated dust jacket.
Revised edition of Swiss architect Roth's pioneering study of school planning and architecture (originally published in 1958). A leading figure in international architectural Functionalism, Roth was a protégé of Le Corbusier, and collaborated with Marcel Breuer and Alvar Aalto among others. "The school must become more and more an 'open house', a community center... it must strive to awaken and encourage a harmonic, democratic relationship between young and old and to counteract the dehumanizing influences in today's society" (from the foreword). This first revised edition (the fourth overall) looks at 36 schools throughout Europe, the US, Asia, and the Middle East, including 15 schools not previously included. Illustrated throughout with hundreds of black-and-white photos, plans and elevations. Text in English, German and French. Unclipped dust jacket with some edgewear and soiling. Very good. Item #559
