New York: Star File Photo, c.1980. Vintage black-and-white photographic print (measures 8" x 10"), ink stamp and typed label credit to verso.
"We got along instantly, and he became my fashion mate" (Liza Minnelli). Vintage black-and-white photo of Liza Minnelli and Halston at his Upper East Side abode. Halston purchased the property, designed by modernist architect Paul Rudolph, in 1979. For a decade, he hosted star-studded parties attended by the likes of Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, Truman Capote, Jacquiline Onassis, and Minnelli. The designer and actress first met through Liza's godmother, the author Kay Thompson (who wrote the Eloise series of children's books). They quickly became inseparable, and remained close friends until Halston’s death in 1990. For most of the 70s and 80s, Minnelli’s wardrobe was dominated by Halston’s designs and they were often spotted together at Studio 54. The photo is from the files of publicity photo agency Star File, and was shot by a stringer, Vinnia Zuffante, with their respective credits to the verso. Fine. Item #5514
