The Art of Guido Crepax. Comics Land Portfolio N.1

Genoa, Italy: Comics Land Portfolio, 1973. 1st Edition. Folio, publisher's stapled stiff illustrated wraps.

1973 monograph on Italian graphic artist Guido Crepax. Considered the "Raphael of comics," Crepax is best-known for his surreal, erotic Valentina series. Originally a supporting character in his 1955 comic Neutron, the glamorous and seductive photographer quickly overshadowed the original protagonist. Valentina was given her own strip series in 1965, and quickly became an underground icon in the 60s and 70s. This catalog features a comprehensive selection of Valentina comics along with a chronology of their appearances in Linus from 1965-1973, an introduction by Comics Land Portfolio founder Nino Bernazzali, and a feature on Corrado Farina’s 1973 giallo film Baba Yaga which is based on the series. Illustrated throughout in black-and-white. Old price sticker to lower wrap. Light creasing and soiling to wraps. Near fine. Item #5475
