Series of 80 pencil, ink wash, and gouache drawings of the great 19th-century French novelist. Scultpor Adam-Tessier, like Flaubert a native of the northern French city of Rouen, undertook these portraits after a period of convalescence in hospital from a heart attack, during which time he immersed himself in Flaubert's correspondence. The portraits are accompanied by excerpts from Flaubert's letters, as well as considerations of Flaubert by friends and contemporaries such as Guy de Maupassant, Louise Colet, George Sand, and Émile Zola. With texts by Adam-Tessier, curator Lydwine Saulnier-Pernuit, and writer Baptiste-Marrey; a list of drawings; artist's biography and list of exhibitions. Text in French.
