In Celebration of Amazons.... Midwest Lesbian Conference and Music Festival

Chicago: Women's Graphics Collective, 1974. Large color screen-printed poster (measures 22" x 32").

Original multicolor screen-printed poster for the 1974 Midwest Lesbian Conference and Music Festival. Formed by the Lansing Area Lesbian Feminist Collective (LALF), also known as the the Ambitious Amazons, the festival preceded, and was eventually subsumed by, the now-iconic Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. The event was one of the first regional women-only events offering lesbians opportunities to meet openly and safely while also providing large audiences for lesbian artists and musicians. Notably, the festival resulted in the creation of the Lesbian Connection, a free periodical established by LALF founder Margy Lesher and other members, which continues to promote music festivals, conferences, and cultural events nartionally. The present poster was produced by the Chicago Women's Graphics Collective, a socialist feminist collective formed in the early 70s to publicize a variety of social justice issues. Approx. 2" crease to upper left edge, else fine. Scarce. Item #5313
