[The Empire Strikes Back Teaser Poster]. Advance One Sheet

[Los Angeles]: Lucasfilm Ltd., 1979. Large folding illustrated poster (measures 27" x 41").

"The Star Wars saga continues": Original one-sheet "teaser" poster for the second (or fifth) film in the Star Wars franchise, and still by far the best, The Empire Strikes Back (1980). With a screenplay by veteran science fiction novelist and screenwriter Leigh Brackett and then first-timer Lawrence Kasdan (who completed the script after Brackett died pre-production), and direction by Hollywood journeyman Irving Kershner, Empire took a darker turn than the first film, focusing more on character development, yet without sacrificing brisk storytelling hooks or a sense of grandeur. Issued to theaters in late 1979, this advance poster heralded the film's upcoming release: "Coming to your galaxy this summer." Designed by prolific illustrator and poster artist Robert M. Peak. One of two contemporaneous printings, this example is the Studio version (as distinct from the National Screen Service version), with "Advance One Sheet" printed to the lower left. Issued folded. Splits at fold points, sometimes significantly, pinholes near all four corners, minor edgewear. A good, still presentable copy. Item #4399
