New York: New American Library, 1984. Uncorrected Proof. Octavo, publisher's illustrated stiff paper wraps.
Uncorrected proof of this mid-1980s horror novel by Stephen King, "Special ABA Edition," packaged for distribution at the American Booksellers Association annual trade show. The last title King published under his longtime pseudonym Richard Bachman before his identity was revealed, the story is at least slightly autobiographical. Revolving around a man put under a curse that causes him to lose weight rapidly, for carelessly striking a "gypsy" with is car, the novel was inspired by King’s experiences with a doctor who informed him he was "in heart attack country" and instructed him to go on a diet. King had published four novels previously under the pseudonym, and continued to use it occasionally even after his authorship was known. Some rubbing and edgewear to wraps. Very good. Uncommon.
