Houston, TX: Houston Fine Art Press, 1987. 1st Edition. Large quarto, publisher's white cloth, spine stamped in silver, grey endpapers, original illustrated dust jacket.
Scarce first edition monograph of Bay Area figurative painter Richard Diebenkorn’s acclaimed Ocean Park drawings, created between 1967 and 1988 while he was residing in Santa Monica. While Diebenkorn is best known for his luminous large-scale paintings from the same series, less attention is paid to the nearly 450 drawings and works on paper he made at the same time. This volume contains 143 reproductions of his works on paper, many produced as studies for his paintings. Illustrated throughout with color plates (several folding). Edited with an introduction by founder of Houston Fine Arts Press Richard Newlin. A few small stains along top edge of textblock and top edge of cloth, else near fine. Item #4138
