The Spice-Box of Earth. Leonard Cohen.

The Spice-Box of Earth

New York: Bantam Books, 1968. 1st US Paperback Edition. 12mo, publisher's illustrated stiff paper wraps lettered in black.

First mass market paperback edition of revered Canadian poet and singer-songwriter Cohen’s second collection of poems: "You have the lovers,/they are nameless, their histories only for each other,/and you have the room, the bed and the windows./Pretend it is a ritual" ("You Have the Lovers"). Originally published in Toronto in 1961 when Cohen was 27 years old, Spice-Box was released in the US in '65 in hardcover, and reprinted in hardcover once more prior to this August '68 paperback issue, most likely timed to capitalize on the release of his first studio record, The Songs of Leonard Cohen ('67). Textblock embrowned, wraps with light edgewear, scattered soiling to rear wrap. Very good. Scarce. Item #411
