New York: Simon and Schuster, 1973. Early printing. Quarto, publisher's stiff pictorially illustrated paper wraps.
The idea for this comprehensive guide to women’s health (praised by the New York Times as a "feminist classic" and "America’s bestselling book on women’s health") developed in a small 1969 workshop entitled "Women and Their Bodies," where a consciousness-raising environment prospered, leading to the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective. Our Bodies, Ourselves was and remains a collaborative project written by many women and covering a wide range of issues including sexual health, sexual orientation, birth control, abortion, pregnancy and childbirth, violence and abuse, and menopause. It has since been adapted by other women’s groups globally and exists in 29 languages. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white photos and illustrations. Sixteenth printing of the first edition. Light toning and some edgewear to wraps. Very good. Item #3460
