Garden City: Doubleday, 1986. 1st Edition. Large quarto, publisher's black cloth, spine stamped in silver, red endpapers, original pictorially illustrated dust jacket.
Scarce inscribed first edition of acclaimed American photographer Amy Arbus’s debut photobook. Taken in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, and Albuquerque, Arbus’s diverse selection of portraits showcase the ambitious and often eccentric homes and interiors of some of the creative industry’s best known faces such as actor Dennis Hopper, director Terry Zwigoff, singer John Sex, architect Frank Gehry, fashion designer Clovis Ruffin, pop painter Kenny Scharf, and many more. Inscribed by Arbus to the half-title page: “For Lloyd 4/87 / At first I was touched… / Now I’m completely moved / Love Amy." Laid in is a signed letter from Arbus to WNBC producer Lloyd Kramer (misspelled as "Cramer"). Two small spots of soiling to rear board, light sunning to top edge; unclipped dust jacket with toning and wear to edges–including some dampstaining to verso–and light general soiling. Creasing to folded letter, light soiling. Very good. Item #3159
