Alexander McQueen. Savage Beauty

New York: Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2011. 5th Printing. Folio, publisher's brown cloth, spine stamped in silver, lenticular photo label inset to upper board, patterned endpapers.

Exhibition catalog published in conjunction with the record-breaking show held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the summer of 2011 showcasing the sartorial work of late British fashion designer Alexander McQueen. The landmark show was the first and largest retrospective of the iconoclastic innovator ever organized, featuring pieces from his first major collection, "Jack the Ripper Stalks His Victims," which he created as a graduate student at Central Saint Martins, along with pieces from his most celebrated shows such as "Banshee," "Highland Rape," and "The Widows of Culloden," which famously included an original life-size hologram of Kate Moss. This comprehensive monograph comprises full coverage of the exhibition, with a preface by head curator Andrew Bolton; an introduction by British journalist and close friend of McQueen’s Susannah Frankel; an interview by Tim Blanks with McQueen’s successor Sarah Burton. Illustrated throughout with color and black-and-white plates (many full-bleed) by Norwegian fashion photographer Sølve Sundsbø; with exhibition checklist. Lenticular cover designed by McQueen’s nephew, Gary James McQueen. Fifth printing, issued the same year as the first. Publisher's original loose packing sheet laid in. Trace of sticker removal to rear board, else fine. Item #3071
