Another Girl, Another Planet. March 23 - April 17, 1999

New York: Lawrence Rubin Greenberg Van Doren Fine Art, 1999. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher's photo-illustrated card wraps.

"Collapsing the distinction between the factual and the fictive, these artists have projected their own history through their lens and onto their subjects. Here the complex relationship between the camera and sexuality is explored, inextricably linking the photographic act with voyeurism and sexual desire" (from the introduction). Exhibition catalog published in conjunction with the now historic show held at New York’s Lawrence Rubin Greenberg Van Doren Fine Art in the spring of 1999. Featuring the dreamy and erotically charged photographic work of 13 women photographers from around the world following in the footsteps of Cindy Sherman and Tina Barney and foreshadowing the work of Petra Collins and Sarah Bahbah, the show staged pictures of adolescent girls undergoing crises of identity. Includes such iconic images as Justine Kurland's photos of unsupervised girls at play in the woods, Malerie Marder's vision of a girl in a bikini floating on a pool raft, and Sarah Jones's Pre-Raphaelite-esque image of pensive twins in a backyard garden; also features work by Dana Hoey, Liza May Post, Julie Becker, Gabriel Brandt, Sarah Dobai, Jenny Gage, Katy Grannan, Jitka Hanzlová, Dayanita Singh, and Vibeke Tandberg. Organized by curator and founder of gallery Salon 94 Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn and American photographer Gregory Crewdson. Illustrated with color and black-and-white plates, with an introduction by Rohatyn and a short story by award-winning novelist A.M. Homes, and artist CVs. Lightest fosing to wraps, else fine.
