Sex and Words. Inspired by the Work of D.H. Lawrence

New York: Visionaire, 2006. 1st Edition. Square quarto, publisher's black-and-white printed stiff paper wraps.

Special edition "bookzine" produced by art and fashion publisher Visionaire, and designed by fashion photographer and frequent Visionaire contributor Bruce Weber. Weber brings together a series of lush, open-air shots of his nude male subject with texts by D.H. Lawrence and pen-and-ink drawings from nature by fellow fashion photographer Stanley, the whole comprising a highly idealized meditation on sex and beauty. Texts include excerpts from Lady Chatterley's Lover, Women In Love, Sons and Lovers, and poems from Lawrence's collection Pansies: "The great cage of our domesticity/kills sex in a man, the simplicity/of desire is distorted and twisted awry./And so, with bitter perversity,/gritting against the great adversity,/the young ones copulate, hate it, and want to cry." Photos mostly full-page in black-and-white (several in color); drawings printed on translucent vellum. One of 2000 unnumbered copies. Light fingersoiling to wraps. Near fine. Item #242
