Hollywood: RM Films International, Inc, 1990. Printed photo-illustrated bi-folium sheet, accompanied by printed triple-folded one-page promotional letter, folded one-page order form, folded one-page photocopy of a Vanity Fair tearsheet, and original mailing envelope.
Late-80s mail order catalog for the films of "vixen director" Myer, with supplemental materials. Meyer, who got his start as a cameraman for World War II newsreels, and was an early photographer for Playboy, rose to prominence as the prolific auteur of sexploitation melodramas like Wild Gals of the Naked West, Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, and Vixen!, shot on the cheap in and around California's Sonoran desert. He was hired by 20th Century Fox to direct Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970, scripted by Roger Ebert), yet despite the film's commercial success, he tussled with the studio and ultimately returned to independent filmmaking, before retiring in the late 70s to focus on the booming home video market. The present mail order brochure showcases 13 films spanning his career, with synopses of each and color photos of many of the busty starlets he favored. Accompanied by a mail order form (customers could choose from VHS or Beta, at a price of $79.50 each, or $40 each with an order of six tapes or more), a Vanity Fair tearsheet with a squib by Michael Musto, a black-and-white photo-illustrated promotional letter pitching a signed first edition of Meyer's "tittyboom" tell-all, The Breast of Russ Meyer, and the original mailing envelope. All fine, with expected wear to mailing envelope. Item #240
