New York: Redstockings/Random House, 1978. 1st Trade Edition. Quarto, publisher's stiff paper wraps printed in black and red.
Anthology of essays on the key issues to the Women's Liberation Movement, personal and polictical, distributed by the radical feminist group Redstockings. The group's name is a play on "Blue Stockings," a pejorative term for intelligent women, combined with "red" for its association with the revolutionary left. Chapters include "Resistances to Women's Conciousness," "The Pro-Woman Line on Work," "The Pro-Woman Approach to Sex," "Organizing," "The Liberal Takeover of Women's Liberation" and "Building a Real Left." Gift inscription on title page reading "To: Mary/I like your courage and your fight for the liberation of women + your own./I love you, Garnett"; an edited address label has been pasted onto the copyright page, which is additionally annotated with "write for insert on Gloria + CIA!" referring to a censored chapter charging Gloria Steinem of collaborating with the CIA to subvert the progress of feminism. Originally published in journal format in 1975 (with the censored Steinem chapter). Light soiling and general wear to wraps, light foxing throughout. Very good. Item #2093
