Journey to Fulfillment

Tallahassee: The Naiad Press, Inc., 1982. Reprint Edition. 12mo, publisher's printed stiff paper wraps.

Paperback re-issue of this classic lesbian novel, the first in a series charting the exploits and sexual awakening of Erika Frohmann, a Holocaust survivor who finds her way to postwar Chicago. Pseudonymous author Tate, who also published under the names Nacella Young and Francine Davenport, was a Quaker, a longtime activist, and a member of the American Socialist party and the Daughters of Bilitis. In her books, Taylor "successfully avoided sensationalism and extraneous sex scenes and worked to normalize, humanize, and desensationalize the lesbian characters while keeping them central to each story" (The Queer Sixties, Patricia Juliana Smith, ed.). Originally published in 1964, this re-issue was published as the first title in the publisher's Volute Book series ("The imprint...tells the reader she is reading a classic Lesbian novel from the past"). Owner inscription to first page. Light edgewear. Near fine. Item #2081
