Exhibition catalog for a documentary photography show held at the Chinese Community Center of New York in 1980. Produced collaboratively by members of the center, the catalog depicts the emergence of Chinatown in New York City, beginning with the China Trade in 1784, to the early settlers in California, and finally to Chinatown’s still nascent beginnings in New York at the turn of the century. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white plates and reproductions of historical illustrations, maps and ephemera. Text in Chinese and English. Early owner notes in ink to title-page.
