Manchester: World Distributors, 1974. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's photo-illustrated boards, photo-illustrated endpapers.
Final annual issue of British music and star magazine for teens and tweens, Popswop, bringing together a year's worth of jams and heartthrobs into a hardcover volume. The magazine was founded in 1972 but was only in print for three years before being taken over by Record Mirror. Along with horoscopes, recipes (Suzi Quatro's banana cake), two board games, a celeb dating column ("So Rod Stewart's your choice eh?") and a quiz (is a bat a mammal?), this issue includes profiles on Bowie, Marc Bolan, Jackson 5, Sweet, Slade, Roy Wood and MUD, among others. Boldly designed with practically every typeface produced in the 1970s, collaging together photos, drawings and graphics. Spreads are in black-and-white, but there are full color portraits of the stars meant to be cut out and plastered above your bed. General wear to boards, corners bumped. Very good. Item #1896
