London: Proteus Books, 1981. 1st Edition. Octavo, publisher's olive cloth over blue paper-covered boards, spine gilt, original illustrated dust jacket.
Compilation of tributes to John Lennon published in various magazines and newspapers in the immediate aftermath of his assassination by Mark David Chapman in front of his residence, the Dakota apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side, on December 8, 1980. Sources include the Washington Post, Time, Newsday, Billboard, the New Yorker, and smaller periodicals from all over – a testament to the profound and widespread grief felt at the senseless loss of a towering cultural figure and modern-day prophet. Proceeds from the sale of the book were divided between Lennon's own charitable vehicle the Spirit Foundation, and the gun control advocacy group Handgun Control, Inc. (later the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence). Illustrated throughout with black-and-white photos. Light offsetting to endpapers from binder's glue; light soiling to unclipped dust jacket. Near fine. Item #1847
