Mass market paperback reprint of American novelist and nurse Nella Larsen's most famous work. A prominent figure in both the Harlem Renaissance and American Modernist movement, Larsen was born to a white Danish immigrant mother and an Afro-Caribbean father. Although her literary career was brief, she became renowned for her fiction that explored racial and gender identity in the US with nuance. In 1930, she became the first Black woman to win a Guggenheim Fellowship for creative writing. Originally published in 1929, the novel chronicles the reunion of two light-skinned childhood friends in Chicago who have chosen opposite sides of the "color line." It was adapted into a 2021 film by British actress Rebecca Hall starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga. Minor creasing to wraps, else fine. Item #13036
