First edition monograph on Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi, authored by art historian Diane Kirkpatrick. Paolozzi's prolific career consisted mostly of collages and sculptures that aesthetically prefigured key characteristics of Pop Art by almost a decade, later earning him the reputation of the "godfather of pop art." He abandoned much of his previous aesthetic when he discovered wallpaper, textiles and homeware, allowing him to create a new visual language rooted in applied art and science. Considered the first significant survey of his output, this volume documents the evolution of Paolozzi’s career by decade, detailing his surrealist influences, postwar sculptures and printmaking techniques, creative motivations, and anti-elitism philosophies.
