Beverly Pepper in Todi

Todi, Italy: L'Associazione Piazza Maggiore di Todi, 1979. 1st Edition. Slim folio, publisher's stiff black card wraps lettered in white, photo-illustrated endpapers.

Exhibition catalog of American sculptor Beverly Pepper's site-specific installation "Todi Columns." First exhibited in 1979 – the installation was re-installed at the Piazza del Popolo in Todi, Italy in 2019 – "Todi Columns" features four monumental steel sculptures created in collaboration with the municipality. The sculptures' minimalist leanings sit in stark contrast to the ancient Italian architecture of the town square, creating a dialogue about memory and the relationship of art to its sociological and historical underpinnings. A concise survey of Peppers's oeuvre accompanies black-and-white exhibition and installation photos, further contextualizing her artistic practice. "Todi Columns" has enjoyed a fruitful exhibition history, having been shown in Washington, DC, New York, Venice and Florence. Includes chronology, bibliography and selected exhibition history of the artist. Text in English and Italian. Minor scuffing to wraps. Near fine. Item #1155
