Aspen: DC Publishing Co., 1974. 1st Edition. Quarto, publisher's black plastic spiral comb binding over photo-illustrated stiff paper wraps.
A passion project of photographers Bettina Mueller and Arabella Sundance, depicting images of nude men posed in various settings in and around Aspen, Colorado. Positioned ambivalently as both calendar and illustrated diary, the visual language achieved in the black-and-white photos – slipping seamlessly between humor, sensuality, the quotidian and the fabulous – is multifaceted, but draws mostly heavily from the oft-mythic pornographic imagery of the Victorian era. A preface contextualizes the photographers' fumbling journey, grounding both photographers and subjects as co-conspirators to the work's resultant sensuous energy: "This is a book meant to be cherished – more than a calendar and place to record your dreams and realities, it's an art form. A further reminder that we of the distaff side of life have come a long way – baby!" Illustrated throughout with numerous black-and-white plates. Some rubbing and creasing to wraps. Near fine.
