New York: Bloomingdale's/New York Times, 1976. 1st Edition. Oblong octavo, publisher's stapled photo-illustrated wraps.
"Better to live five minutes of happiness rather than an entire life in a conventional way" (Guy Bourdin). Advertising supplement commissioned by NYC department store Bloomingdale's for the New York Times in September, 1976, and French fashion photographer and filmmaker Guy Bourdin's only "photobook" published in his lifetime. Featuring lingerie by Christian Dior, Diane Von Furstenberg and Fernando Sanchez, and many prominent models of the era, notably Janice and Debbie Dickinson, the book showcases the hallmarks of Bourdin’s iconic style – narrative photos in saturated colors and sensuously cropped compositions that evoke mystery and unabashed sexuality. The fame-averse Bourdin's oeuvre was often eclipsed by fellow provocateur Helmut Newton, until his death in 1991 brought about a reappraisal of his prolific and influential body of work. Slightly shaken in wraps, with some edgewear and creasing. Very good. Scarce. Item #1053
