Los Angeles: The Municipal Art Patrons and Art Commission of Los Angeles, 1954. 1st LA Edition. Small thin quarto, publisher's stapled photo-illustrated wraps.
Inscribed exhibition catalog for a retrospective of Wright's "Organic Architecture," originally shown in Florence, Italy in 1951. (A brief preview ran in Philadelphia in that year; Los Angeles later sponsored and hosted the first official showing in America, in a pavilion built for the exhibit, adjacent to Wright's 1913 Barnsdall House, depicted on the upper wrap). Inscribed in ink to the upper wrap: "To James Sweeney - our curator and friend/F Lloyd/54." Sweeney was Director of the Guggenheim Museum from 1952-1960, and oversaw construction of the iconic Wright-designed museum building, of which (according to his obituary in the New York Times) he was not a fan. Illustrated throughout with plans, drawings, and black-and-white photos of buildings and interiors. Light general toning and soiling to wraps, including a small stain to lower wrap. Very good.
